Identity is an ever present interplay of paradox’s in which our need to stand out is constantly at odds with our need to belong. No where is this dichotomy more focused than how we choose to represent ourselves to the interconnected culture we participate in. How an individual can maintain and grow his or her identity within the expectations that are ever present often gets expressed with our outer landscape while attempting to hide the inner landscape we must all navigate. The exploration of portraiture for me is much more about the latter than the former. The interaction between myself and the subject is about that exploration and the bond that is created even for the briefest of moments between myself and that inner landscape. The true expression of the individual within found and shared, leaving just enough behind the curtain to offer more questions for a later time.
